Selection of Structural Analysis Computer Programs

Abstract

The use of computerised techniques of structural analysis is now standard in many branches of engineering. There is, however, a wide range of programs available both commercially and within individual organisations. These programs differ in their capabilities and in their costs and ease of use. The potential user may experience considerable difficulty in selecting a program that is appropriate to his particular class of work. The paper by Mr. Andrew describes in detail the technical and administrative course of action that has been adopted by a major industrial organization to select and implement programs that are appropriate to its work. Mr. Taig presents a similar discussion but with perhaps more emphasis on technical issues. Papers presented at the 47th Structures and Materials Panel Meeting, Florence, Italy, September 1978.
