Assessment of Color as a Sonar Display Parameter.

Abstract

This study was designed to assess the use and value of color as a sonar display parameter. A DIMUS sonar display was simulated and detection performance as influenced by the encoding of amplitude information in color as compared to the encoding of such information as brightness along a conventional grey scale was examined. The color formats yielded significant increases in detection relative to detection using a black-and-white format. (Author)
