Chemical and Electrochemical Studies in Room Temperature Aluminum Halide-Containing Melts.

Abstract

This review of recent work in the area covers a brief overview of work in sodium tetrachloroaluminate melts, with emphasis on acid-base chemistry, species characterization, chemistry of chalcogenides and chalcogens and the stability of radical ions. Work in the aluminum chloride-n-butylpyridinium room temperature melt is covered in more detail with regard to species characterization by Raman spectroscopy, acid-base chemistry, the electrochemical and spectroscopic studies of aromatic hydrocarbons, and an indication of other studies of inorganic species in these melts.
