Photodissociation Cross Sections and Spectroscopy of Atmospheric Positive Ions

Abstract

Photodissociation cross sections have been measured for the atmospheric positive ions O4(+), NONO(+), N4(+), CO2CO2(+), CO4(+), O2(+)-H2O, and O2(+)-2H2O at wavelengths between 3500 and 8400 A using a drift tube mass spectrometer coupled with an argon or krypton ion laser or a tunable dye laser. Upper limits were set for the ions COCO(+), NO(+)-CO2, NO(+)-N2, NO(+)-nH2O, and H3O(+)-nH2O. Solar photoloss rates for these ions were calculated.
