Gyrocompassing Error Analysis for Pershing II Inertial Measurement Unit

Abstract

This report documents the result of several error analyses for PERSHING II inertial measurement unit gyrocompassing. The analyses have been beneficial in three ways. They offered an opportunity for a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms governing the dependence of gyrocompassing error on error sources. The analytic results provide a means for estimating gyrocompassing error from known error sources, and pave the way for the development of a technique for identifying source errors from a properly devised test. Three categories of error sources are discussed. Detailed analyses were made for two categories. Analysis for the third category was not done here.
