Synthesis and Properties of Rodlike Aromatic Heterocyclic Polymers: Phenylated Para-Terphenylene-Polybenzobis-Oxazoles

Abstract

One of the goals of current synthetic polymer research is to prepare high-modulus, high-strength structural materials for aerospace applications. The successful polymer system must: (1) Have a molecular structure that imparts unusually high tensile strength and modulus; (2) Be amenable to fabrication by a method that maximizes these properties; (3) Possess a high use-temperature; (4) Result in moisture-insensitive and hydrolytically stable fabricated parts.
