Reliability and Structural Fatigue in One-Crack Models,

Abstract

To be realistic, any model of structural fatigue should allow for attrition due to collapse and/or war damage, hijacking, etc. In one-crack structures, attrition adds a single term to the Fokker-Planck equation which statistically describes crack growth. This remarkably simplifies the reliability computation, and elucidates the interaction of fatigue, inspection, ultimate loads and other risks. (Author)
