High Energy Halogen Chemistry

Abstract

The objective of this program is to develop new synthetic methods for classes of compounds with potential utility in high energy propellant and explosives. Emphasis was continued on studies of the chemistry of 2-fluoro-2-nitro-1, 3-propanediol and related compounds, and on polymerization studies of nitrooxetanes and epoxides. A manuscript on Michael reactions of nitro compounds with methylenemalonates comprises Appendix A of this report. The products are potentially useful nitrooxetane intermediates.
