Nuclear Techniques for Plasma Diagnostics.

Abstract

Recent developments of nuclear techniques to measure neutrons and positive ions emitted from pulsed-plasma devices are reviewed. Neutron detection for intensities ranging from 100 to 10 to the 12th power neutrons/pulse is described. Activation detectors are useful for yields exceeding 1,000,000 neutrons. Scintillation detectors are required for less intense yields and for neutron measurements by time-of-flight. Intense pulsed ion beams are measured with nuclear reactions which produce delayed radioactivity. This activation technique is reviewed for proton, deuteron and alpha particle beams. (Author)
