Political Directions in Former French (West) African Colonies.

Abstract

Recent events in Africa include wars on the Horn of Africa, Zaire and Angola. Cuban troops have been involved in the fighting and are stationed in other African states. The USSR and China have been competing for influence in Africa for some time. However, the formerly French West African states have not been the scene of these more dramatic events. This paper examines in some depth the development of this area. As a model, two former French colonies are examined in depth (Senegal and the Ivory Coast). (Author)
