Ship Escape, Survival and Rescue Detection System for Great Lakes Winter Shipyard Operations.

Abstract

As Great Lakes shipping extends deep into the winter months, the need for crew safety and cold water survival becomes paramount in importance. A program employing improved individual survival techniques coupled with upgraded anti-exposure and survival equipment requires a first order priority. The Naval Air Development Center has examined the problem of exposure protection for naval aviators. Much of the development techniques and materials employed in this effort can be utilized in developing a single system for Great Lakes shipboard use during the winter season. (Author)
