Near Millimeter Wave Study-Components.

Abstract

The generation of short far infrared pulses by using a mode-locked CO2 pump laser is explored experimentally and theoretically. It is demonstrated that pulses of <1 nsec are obtainable from CH3F at 496 micron and D2O at 385 micron. Theoretical estimates indicate the possibility of pulses in the 300-600 psec range with a conversion efficiency comparable to the Manley-Rowe limit. (Author)
