A System Description of an Improved 10.6-Micrometers LIDAR System for Monostatic Optical Measurements of Battlefield Dust and Smoke.

Abstract

A 10.6-micrometers wavelength CO2 lidar system, designed specifically for measurements of battlefield dust and smoke, was installed in the laser Doppler velocimeter van. The system design addresses recommendations made following a smoke test field program using a prototype system. Improvements in range resolution, range jitter, side lobe clutter, and amplitude dynamic range were incorporated in the system. This report serves as a system technical manual.
