Research on Visual Display Integration for Advanced Fighter Aircraft.

Abstract

This 'Visual Display Integration' study was conducted to determine the display integration options projected available for inclusion in an attack/fighter aircraft crew station design in the 1985-1990 time. A second objective was the definition of an evaluation framework that would permit evaluation of the selected display options during future related studies. Summarizing the results, it is clearly evident that the CRT, as Option 1, will retain its preeminence as the multifunction display unit for 1985-1990. Option 2 is the flat-panel plasma display, Option 3 is the flat-panel liquid crystal display, and Option 4 is the electroluminescent thin-film-transistor display. It was concluded that man-in-the loop simulations provide the best opportunity for evaluating these display options in future related work.
