Spacecraft Charging Studies in Europe.

Abstract

The report reviews European research activities concerned with the electrostatic charging of spacecraft. The contributions of the GEOS and METEOSAT missions are emphasized but many other projects have provided useful information which helps in understanding the potential hazards of charging. The capabilities of European organizations are described and assessed for the contributions they could make in the future. Recommendation for further work to resolve the outstanding problems revealed by this study are presented. (Author)
