Literature Survey of Marine Aerosol Research

Abstract

This literature survey provides an extensive list of references in marine aerosol research, including investigations of marine aerosols found above the seashore and transport of sea salt over the mainland. It also includes discussions of the chemical composition of precipitated water and the complex question of how sea salt influences the precipitation mechanism. The specific goal of the survey is to describe the generation, composition, and transportation of marine aerosols and the specific application of these factors to cloud physics and atmospheric optics. The survey covers the entire spectrum of particle sizes within the size range of .0000001 to .01 cm and concentrations between several thousandths to millions of particles per cc. However, not many articles deal with particles in the .0000001 to .01 cm size range, and others exclude the cloud and precipitation elements. The opinions of various authors on the historical development and importance of specific works in marine aerosol study are the subjects of the narrative sections.
