Long Range Spoil Disposal Study. Part VII. Substudy 6. Delaware River Anchorages,

Abstract

This is a reconsideration of the merits of enlarging Mantua Creek Anchorage and providing an improved anchorage off Reedy Point, Delaware and off Deepwater, Delaware as authorized by the River and Harbor Act of 3 July 1958. The reconsideration was made by analyzing current need, use of established anchorages, changing shipping patterns, the shortage of disposal areas, the multimillion dollar initial cost of anchorages, and their high maintenance cost. The report concludes that further investment in enlargement of anchorages would provide a benefit to cost ratio of .15 to 1 and is without merit from any reasonable viewpoint. (Author)
