Studies of the Production of Chloramine in the Gas Phase.

Abstract

The gas phase reaction of NH3 and Cl2 to produce chloramine NH2Cl has been studied. The ratio of reactants (NH3/Cl2), the effects of diluent gas (N2), and the temperature of the reactants and reaction zone were investigated in a reactor designed to emphasize changes in the yield. The yield of NH2Cl and the temperature of the reacted gas stream were the key parameters monitored. The yield can be high when the ratio of reactants is low if diluent gas is used.
