Dust Cloud Modeling and Propagation Effects for Radar and Communications Codes

Abstract

This report describes new and improved models for dust generated by a low altitude nuclear burst and the effects of this dust on radar and communications propagation. These models were developed for the WEPH code and are applicable for use in radar or communication codes. Developed in this report are: An improved MIE calculation, An extended model of the dust particle size distributions, Methods for calculating the complex index of refraction for dust particles, and Dust models for the nuclear stem and pedestal regions.
