Accuracy Validation of the Modified Nike Hercules Radar.

Abstract

During the week of 7-11 February 1977, 12 balloon flights were made during which the balloon was tracked simultaneously by a modified Nike Hercules radar and a range radar. The range radars used were MPS-36s. The results of these tests and the statistical results of the machine differences are presented. Results show that the Nike Hercules is quite adequate for most mesoscale applications and is also adequate as a standard of comparison for such instruments that might be developed as a replacement for the Army's GMD.
