Workshop Report: Fundamental Reactions in Solid Propellant Combustion

Abstract

This report summaries the results of a JANNAF workshop held 26-27 July 1977 at the Ballistic Research Laboratory. The purpose of the workshop was to assess our current understanding of the fundamental chemical and physical processes involved in the ignition and combustion of nitrate ester and nitramine propellants. A breif review is presented of the nitramine slope break and nitrate ester catalysis phenomena. The workshop discussions are summarized. Specific discussion questions are listed, together with some of the ideas and recommendations that resulted from the workshop.
