Effects of Beam Steering on the Behavior of Planar Arrays.

Abstract

This memorandum is a continuation of reference which discussed the effects of the transducer internal impedance (ZI, or Zoc) upon the behavior of unsteered planar arrays. A detailed discussion of the effects of the components of the transducer equivalent circuit upon ZI is contained in another reference. Results are presented in this memorandum showing the effects of beam steering and ZI upon the behavior of 80 element planar arrays. Three main criteria will be used in evaluating the behavior of the arrays: cavitation-limited power, velocity-limited power, and the occurrence of negative radiation resistances.
