Principles of Work Sample Testing. 2. Evaluation of Personnel Testing Programs

Abstract

Suggestions are offered for increasing the objectivity of measurement in programs of personnel testing. Classical concepts of reliability and validity are reviewed. Construct validity is seen as the basic evaluation of a measuring instrument in psychology; criterion-related validity actually refers to hypotheses rather than to measurements, and content validity refers to test development. The major evaluation for personnel tests is less a matter of validity than of job relevance and to generalizability. Implications of latent trait theory and generalizability theory are discussed in terms of content-referenced testing for work samples.
