Voice Response System (VRS) Survey.

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to determine the effectiveness and acceptability of a computer-generated voice system designed to provide pilots with a limited preflight weather briefing via touchtone telephone without the intervention or assistance of a weather briefer. The test area was the District of Columbia, Fairfax County, Arlington County, Alexandria City, Prince Georges County, and Montgomery County. Questionnaires were mailed to a randomly selected group of pilots in the area. Analysis of the data obtained from the questionnaires indicates (1) user pilots have a high level of acceptance of the Voice Response System; (2) the general aviation pilot can use the Voice Response System effectively; and (3) the system satisfied the preflight needs of some pilots.
