National Dam Inspection Program Skytop Dam. NDS I.D. Number PA-00634. DER I.D. Number 45-71. Delaware River Basin. Leavitt Branch; Brodhead Creek. Monroe County, Pennsylvania. Phase I Inspection Report.

Abstract

Skytop Dam is a 19 foot high zoned embankment with an 18 foot high concrete core wall. The dam impounds a 68-acre reservoir. The embankment downstream of the core wall is composed of a porous gravelly material. The downstream slope is 2H:1V. Immediately upstream of the core wall is a triangle-shaped impervious zone. The remaining portion of the upstream zone is composed of a 'dirty' gravel and protected with hand-placed riprap. The upstream slope is 2H:1V. The crest is 24 feet wide. The structure has a gatehouse located at the upstream toe. The gatehouse tower contains a wooden sluice gate with a screened entrance, and a 'Wilcox' gate valve inside the tower, which allows water to enter a 24-inch cast iron pipe. The 24-inch blow off pipe discharges at the downstream toe into the middle of the three lakes, Skytop Dam being the upper and largest of the three lakes on this property.
