Calculation of Short Term Averager Output Standard Deviation for a DIMUS System.

Abstract

It has been shown that the numerical value to use for the standard deviation of the STA output is roughly 1.4 times the number calculated assuming uncorrelated samples, if assumptions 1-4 are true. Computer simulation results verify the analysis. The effect of beam to beam correlation and of correlated noise at the hydrophones on the STA output standard deviation has not yet been determined, and is the subject of further study. (Author)
