Intriguing Aspects of 1,2-Dialkyl-Dimolybdenum and -Ditungsten (M Triple Bond M) Chemistry.

Abstract

The preparation of a series of 1,2-dialkyl compounds of dimolybdenum and ditungsten (M=M) having the general formula M2R2(NMe2)4 is reported for R = CH3, CH2CH3, CH2CD3, CH2CH2CH2CH3, CH(CH3)2, CH2C(CH3)3, CH2Si(CH3)3 and C(CH3)3. The isolation of the labelled compounds M2(CH2CD3)2(NMe2)4 and the isopropyl and tert-butyl derivatives implies that beta-hydrogen elimination is either kinetically or thermodynamically not favorable. All of the above react in hydrocarbon solutions with CO2.
