Plan for Development of Systematic Procedures to Aid Corps Districts in Flood Damage Calculations.

Abstract

The study of alternative structural and nonstructural approaches to reducing flood damages is a major Corps activity. A plan was prepared, with Corps Districts and Divisions input, for upgrading and enhancing existing Corps flood damage estimation capabilities with no departure from accepted Corps concepts or general methodologies. The plan takes advantage of many available technical tools and is directed to the streamlining and standardizing of acquistion, processing, and storage of data; the calculation of residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, land-use type damages; and the aggregation of calculation results on single flood, flood zones, and average annual bases.
