Charging Analysis of the SCATHA Satellite.

Abstract

We describe here a detailed model of the geometrical, material, and electrical properties of the SCATHA satellite for use with the NASA Charging Analyzer Program (NASCAP). Charging calculations in an intense magnetospheric substorm environment demonstrate that: long booms can significantly perturb the potentials near the spacecraft, and discharging by sunlight or by active control can cause serious time-dependent differential charging problems.
