Trapezoidal Convolution Revisited: R-K Convolution or the Digital Simulation of Continuous Systems Via Z-Transforms

Abstract

A proof of the Ragazzini-Zadeh identity which uses the properties of the Dirac delta is outlined. Then the mean value theorem of the integral calculus and various numerical integrators are used to develop convolution approximations of use in the digital simulation of continuous systems. The accuracy of the approximations is examined for the single integrator; also, there are sample problems showing the incorporation of initial conditions.
