Performance Studies of the Distributed CPODA Protocol in the Mobile Access Terminal Network.

Abstract

A Contention Based, Priority Oriented, Demand Access (CPODA) protocol has been proposed for use in a network of shipboard computers and terminals designed to provide access to the Advanced Command and Control Architectural Testbed (ACCAT) via ARPANET. A model of the protocol was implemented on NRL's Satellite Communication Simulator and performance studies were conducted. Although delays in the network are likely to exceed levels tolerable in a shore-based communications network for interactive computer use, they may be acceptable for the purposes of the project.
