Monthly Mean and Standard Deviation Fields of Sea-Level Pressure and Surface Wind for the Northern Hemisphere.

Abstract

In March 1978 there became available a Northern Hemisphere history of analyzed sea-level pressure fields and diagnosed wind fields covering the period January 1946 through December 1977 at 6-hourly intervals. These fields have been used to generate Data Sets containing monthly-mean, and all-years monthly-mean, fields of sea-level pressure and surface wind components together with associated fields of standard deviation. This Report is designed to be suitable for dissemination with data charts and/or data tape fields and provides background information; format specifications and contents of the new Data Sets. All-years monthly-mean fields of sea-level pressure and surface wind (speed and direction) are presented in the Appendices. (Author)
