FM Transmission of Television from Rockets and Balloons.

Abstract

This report deals with the use of preemphasis filtering in FM transmission of television. The television cameras and transmitter are to be located on rocket or balloon instrumentation payloads. The large RF bandwidth necessary for television transmission requires a large transmitted power for the distances of interest. The use of preemphasis will reduce the required transmitted power considerably below that required for a picture of similar quality without preemphasis. This thesis shows how preemphasis filtering can provide an improvement and what the limits of these improvements are. (Author)
