Optimal Linear Control (Characterization and Loop Transmission Properties of Multivariable Systems).

Abstract

This report presents results on characterizations of multivariable control systems. The major results are: extension of the asymptotic modal approach of selecting quadratic performance indexes to the discrete case; the lack of guaranteed stability margins for linear quadratic Gaussian systems, and a design procedure to improve the stability margins for such systems; characterization of multivariable loop transmission properties in terms of singular values and singular vectors, which provides a meaningful concept for multivariable stability margins; and a method for selecting compensation structures to achieve desired loop transmission properties.
