Moisture Sorption and Diffusion in Hercules 3501-6 Epoxy Resin.
Abstract
The objective of this work was to obtain the moisture sorption equilibria of Hercules 3501-6 epoxy resin and its concentration dependent moisture diffusion coefficient. These data are necessary for predicting changes in aircraft strucctural composites properties where this resin is used as a matrix material. The data were obtained by sorption measurements with a Cahn electrobalance. It was found that the diffusion coefficient is strongly concentration-dependent at low moisture concentration, however, it is fairly flat at moisture concentrations corresponding to equilibrium concentration between 30 to 80 percent relative humidity.
