Optical Submarine Communications by Aerospace Relay (OSCAR). Volume 3. Model Development

Abstract

This study explored the capability of blue-green optical communications to perform wide area broadcast to submerged submarines. Emergency action messages, selective call messages, and general broadcast traffic were specifically addressed. As a result of operating concept selection, model development and preliminary performance evaluation, it has been concluded that the system is feasible and optical communications can be maintained from orbiting satellites to submerged submarines.
