Current Research Activities of the Department of Oceanography.

Abstract

Comprehensive teaching and research programs are conducted at the Department of Oceanography, University of Washington, by a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and support personnel. The research program is presently comprised of more than 150 projects covering a broad range of oceanographic investigations and has annual expenditures in excess of six million dollars. These investigations range from one-person individual research projects to participation in multidisciplinary, multiuniversity projects, such as the Coastal Upwelling Ecosystems Analysis program (CUEA), the Deep Ocean Mining Environmental Study (DOMES), the Global Atlantic Tropical Experiment (GATE), the International Program of Ocean Drilling (IPOD) supported by the Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP), the International Southern Ocean Studies (ISOS), the Manganese Nodule Program (MANOP the Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP), the Joint U.S.-U.S.S.R. Mid Ocean Dynamic Experiment (POLYMODE), the Processes and Resources of the Bering Sea Shelf program (PROBES), and the Rivera Ocean Seismic Experiment (ROSE).
