Tropospheric Refractive Studies for Spadats Radar Sites,

Abstract

As prediction tracking radars have evolved, the corrections for tropospheric refractive bending and range error have become more important. Current operational requirements to track targets at elevation angles near the horizon have complicated tropospheric refraction corrections. In this report the tropospheric refractive environment is examined at nine SPADATS radar sites throughout the world. Site statistics are presented and a proposed correction algorithm is presented and tested. (Author)
