Physical and Chemical Data. Cato Expedition. Leg VI, 7 November - 16 December 1972.

Abstract

The purpose of Leg VI of the Cato expedition was to study the deep circulation of the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean. From 7 November to 16 December 1972, Nansen bottle casts and in situ vertical profiles of salinity and temperature (STD lowerings) were made from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Research Vessel Melville in the region of the Rio Grande Rise. Samples were taken for measurement of oxygen, phosphate, nitrate, nitrite, and silica; direct measurements of deep currents were made. The work was supported by the Office of Naval Research.
