Thermal Response and Reusability Tests of Advanced Flexible Reusable Surface Insulation (RSI) and Ceramic Tile RSI Samples at Surface Temperatures to 1200 F

Abstract

Ten minute exposure tests were performed on samples of an advanced flexible reusable surface insulation (AFRSI) made of quartz glass fabric and samples of a ceramic tile reusable surface insulation (RSI). Tests were performed at free-stream Mach number 10 with a total pressure and temperature of 1200 psia and 2150 degree R, respectively, Samples were inclined to the flow at 25 deg and heated to about 1660 degree R during exposure.
