Wave Power Extraction by Floating Bodies.

Abstract

The linearized theory of water waves is reviewed in the context of wave-energy absorbers. A global analysis is outlined, leading to relatively simple expressions for the maximum energy absorption. Calculations are presented for the performance of Salter cam in two dimensions, and of a Cockerell raft in both two and three dimensions. Similar rates of optimum energy absorption are anticipated for other devices including the Kaimei ship and French air bag. (Author)
