Purposes and Problems of Structural Fatigue.

Abstract

This is a qualitative description of the abstraction which has led to the problems of applied probability theory treated in structural fatigue. It also describes the relation of this to the life philosophies of safelife, fail-safe and damage tolerant design. The experimental data needed to apply structural fatigue is also discussed.
