Interactions of Ions and Electrons with Molecules.

Abstract

This report is an account of the progress made in the investigations of rotational and vibrational excitations which occur in collisions of li(6)+ with H2O molecules in the incident ion energy range from 10 to 40 eV (CM energies of 7.5 to 30 eV for the Li+ - H2O system). The large observed inelastic cross sections for the Li(6)+ - H2O system contrast sharply with observations of the scattering of Li(6)+ from N2 in this energy regime where no detectable excitations are found.
