Manual for the Racial Attitudes and Perceptions Survey (RAPS)
Abstract
The manual was developed to enable Army personnel to use the Racial Attitudes and Perceptions Survey (RAPS). The RAPS is a 40 minute, paper and pencil questionnaire that measures the attitudes and perceptions of military personnel on racial matters as they are experienced in daily life. Its primary purpose is to provide objective information to the installation commander to aid him in his general program to promote racial harmony. The manual contains the RAPS, a description of its history and structure, specific directions for administering and scoring it, and guidelines for interpreting the results. The manual lists the personnel (and their capabilities) needed to conduct the survey and provides instructions to them on how to carry out their functions. Sample materials are included.
