Effect of Berenil on Nucleic Acid Synthesis in Trypanosoma brucei,

Abstract

The present study was undertaken to examine (a) the effect of diaminazene on the growth and cellular morphology of monomorphic bloodstream trypanosomes; (b) the effect of diaminazene on nucleic acid and protein synthesis of these trypanosomes; and (c) the effect of diaminazene on prokaryotic and eukaryotic in vitro nucleic acid synthesizing systems. The results obtained are considered as to whether they may account for the ability of this drug to cure some of the African trypanosomiases.
