Avenue to Understanding the Mechanism of Radiation Effects. Extended Serial Sacrifice Experimental Methodology,

Abstract

The visualized avenue towards understanding the mechanism of the effects of radiation on the health of animals used in the experiments is, primarily, through willing interested cooperation between experimenting biologists, on the one hand, and equally willing and interested mathematical statisticians on the other. A review of the developments over two recent decades leads the author to the following conclusions relating to experimental designs. (1) The design of survival experiments with serial sacrifices due to Arthur C. Upton is basic, but (2) This design needs an extension. The building of this extension depends very much on the inventiveness of experimenting biologists. (Author)
