Initiation of Aerated Nitroglycerine in an Eductor

Abstract

A technique is described for the measurement of the shock wave pressures generated within nitroglycerine (NG), when the liquid surface strikes a steel cylinder. These pressures have been observed in a model of a Biazzi Nitroglycerine Eductor; they are shown to be in close agreement with those theoretically predicted and indicate that this mechanism for the initiation of explosion in NG requires serious consideration.
