The Unit Stratification Structure.

Abstract

The Unit Stratification Structure (USS) is a classification system which permits translation of military force structure data into a common framework. It applies to all armed forces and is independent of branch of service or country. Each unit is classified by primary role, major operational characteristic and deployability. The use of this classification system allows more effective joint force planning and analyses both within the DoD and within the NATO alliance. (Author)
