Effect of the Army Oral Health Maintenance Program on the Dental Health Status of Army Personnel (AOHMP Evaluation) Executive Summary

Abstract

The Army Oral Health Maintenance Program is a Department Of Army approved dental program which serves as the primary patient input device for the Army dental care system. This study was designed to determine how effectively the program is working. The study findings indicate that the AOHMP is an effective mechanism for improving the oral health status of program participants. Combat MOS soldiers were shown to have greater care needs than other MOS soldiers and that they receive less care. Rank was not an important variable in the amount of care received but it was an important determinant for amount of care needed. It was recommended that the program be continued and that long term non-participants and combat MOS soldiers be identified and introduced into the program. (Author)
