New Techniques in Numerical Analysis and Their Application to Aerospace Systems.

Abstract

This document summarizes the research performed at Rice University during the period 1976-79 under AFOSR 76-3075 in several areas of numerical analysis of interest in aerospace systems theory, namely: solution of nonlinear equations, solution of differential equations, mathematical programming problems, and optimal control problems. The work summarized here is applicable to these areas of aerospace engineering: optimum atmospheric flight trajectories, optimum extra-atmospheric flight trajectories, optimum aerodynamic shapes, and optimum structures.
